I have a feeling everybody who has pets loves taking pictures of them, obviously I’m not an exception. Thankfully my boys are quite photogenic, except when Kookos pushes his neck back and Jeera does silly expressions…
Once again, I just wish it would finally be summer so we’d get a bit more sun. Jeera and Kookos agree with me – even if they don’t care about the quality of the pictures, they are solar powered and hence need the sun.
Oh well, the amount of the light is increasing every day, and soon the sun will reach our living room as well. We’re going to keep our spirits up until then!
I did manage to make amazing macarons last weekend! Writing the recipe down tends to take an age with me, so unfortunately making a post about them will still take a day or two. I assure you they were quite amazing though; I made ones with lavender honey buttercream and ones with rose sirup and either white or dark chocolate ganache. They were a nice treat to bring to my family, since we went to visit there on Sunday to celebrate Father’s Day. Even my 3-year-old nephew liked them! A foodie in the making…
I have also gotten myself addicted to persimmons. I want to eat them all the time, even when I’m sleeping. I’m so glad they’re finally in season and aren’t costing an arm and a leg. So here is a nice picture of my favourite type of breakfast at the moment – a cappuccino, yoghurt with bananas, blueberries, flax seeds and honey, and of course a persimmon. Delicious! It’s so nice when the good things in life are also simple.
After half a year of renovations in the Akateeminen book store, the day arrived at last: a Starbucks opened in the centre of Helsinki! So naturally – the café enthusiasts as we are – Stef and I thought we’d have nice Caramel Macchiatos on the opening day. Not that we think Starbucks is some kind of a haven of good coffee – we just like to check new cafés out. Since we live in Finland, I should’ve really known: there was a huge queue in there! 30-50 people, at two in the afternoon. Excuse me? Waiting there for half an hour would’ve certainly not been worth it, so we decided to go to Roastery Café on Aleksanterinkatu instead. We will get our 5€ (!) tall Caramel Macchiatos soon enough I guess.
This late autumn is so grey and depressing – it feels like it’s not getting light at all, it just goes from black to grey. I wish it would be sunny!
This weather makes me both tremendously tired and utterly unproductive. In the morning nothing feels better than the warm blankets and some feline and human company in the bed. I’d just like to stay in when the damnable alarm goes off, but no, work awaits.
Twice a week I have my German class, and that is also one reason this blog has been a bit abandoned. I’m trying to learn the language as fast as I can, so I’m actually in a class that is above my level – which means I have to do a lot of extra work in my free time. I have six course books I’m doing at the moment! Six!
Well enough with the moping now, Tiia! I have great plans of making lavender and rose macarons this week, I’m trying my best to have the time for it. If I do and they don’t turn out to be flat as pancakes, recipe is to be expected on the weekend!
In the meanwhile, here are some pictures of Jeera and Kookos, to brighten up the Tuesday!
We wanted to make a blog for a while now but neither of us wanted to maintain it by themselves, so we decided to start one together.
This blog will be in English but neither of us is a native speaker. We speak English at home since it’s the only language we both speak. Currently Stef is learning Finnish and Tiia is learning German so we’ll see how that goes. We’re living in Helsinki at the moment but you never know where life might take us.
Jeera and Kookos are our two extremely silly cats who might be featured in the blog once in a while.
This takes us to the theme of this blog. I don’t think there is one. This isn’t supposed to be only a blog about food, decoration or travelling. It’s a bit of everything and all the things we enjoy doing. So we hope you enjoy reading from us too!
